Q: Are there alligators in the water?
- While it is uncommon to see alligators in people's back yards or pools, you have to remember we are in their environment. Because Parkland is so close to the Everglades and many of these lakes have drainage systems that feed out into the Everglades, it is not impossible to see the occasional alligator. They are more scared of you than you should be of them, but best practice is to not swim in any of the lakes or canals anywhere in South Florida. This includes pets!
Q: What about maintenance on a waterfront property?
- Typically waterfront homes in Parkland don't require much additional maintenance compared to non-waterfront homes. Because Parkland is located far West, you don't have seawalls or other other typical waterfront maintenance items.
Q: Is flooding a problem?
- Most of Parkland is not located in a special Flood Zone for FEMA that would require Flood insurance, however it is always a possibility and a good thing to have. Typically flood insurance in the area is less than $1,000 per year so with homes typically starting at around $1 million in Parkland, this small investment is worth it in case of emergency. Traditional homeowners insurance does not cover flooding.
